What motivates you to do a job?

For me, it's three things - passion about the subject, quality of life, and ego.

Money, career advancement, feeling like part of a team... all of those things are incidental, except when they collide with ego.

It's funny what answers you find when you ask yourself these kinds of questions.

Makes it easier to come to career decisions.

For me: intellectual satisfaction, making a difference/saving the world, and flexible time.
Obviously, money doesn't figure in to my list. It never does for public interest lawyers.

intellectual engagement (does that include passion?), comfrotable work environment (does that mean being part of a team?). ancillary benefit of these qualities: psychological health and friends who can commiserate.

Money has never been an issue, but I've also never had a job that fulfilled these things, except one internship in college, so I don't think that actually counts.
