Biden the Prophet?

Did we just nominate "the first mainstream African-American who is articulate and bright and clean and a nice-looking guy" (thanks, Biden) more or less because he is, err.. the first mainstream African-American who is articulate and bright and clean and a nice-looking guy?

Did we nominate someone who won't be able to carry Florida, Pennsylvania, Ohio, West Virginia, New Hampshire, Michigan or Minnesota?

Did we just kick someone to the curb who would make a serious play for those states, plus Arkansas?

Did we just put New York State in play?

Did we forego someone who can play the politics of soundbyte and image with the best of 'em in favor of soaring rhetoric and honesty?

Did we nominate the best person to win?

Did we?

Nope, but your candidate does give a nice speech. There. Feel better?

Dude! Where's your joy?

It's not like we nominated Tiger Woods. Obama is a great politician--he just knocked off the Clintons for chrissakes! And not just because he's smart and "clean" and a nice guy--but because he ran an outstandingly well-calculated and brilliantly effective campaign. He beat her at the game she's supposedly the master of. Come on! Give him some credit.

New York is not in play. Minnesota is not in play. I'd even argue that Pennsylvania and Michigan will come around, after the primary dust settles. And what about the states that he's got a chance of turning blue? I'd say Virginia's a very good possiblity. Georgia, even!

"Did we forego someone who can play the politics of soundbyte and image with the best of 'em in favor of soaring rhetoric and honesty?"
Yes. Because it is time. His nomination is testament to that.

"Did we nominate the best person to win?" Absolutely.

No candidate is going to win based solely on speech-giving, but c'mon. Last night was a very stark Obama/McCain contrast, not just in stagecraft and image and rhetoric but in ideas and policies and visions of this country's future. Obama's concepts are much more in line with where this country wants to be.

Imho, of course.

We nominated the lesser of two evils. Can me beat McCain....that's another question entirely. Obama, I feel, has lost his ability to draw independent voters.

Kristen said, "Obama's concepts are much more in line with where this country wants to be." I disagree. a majority of the country, yes wants change, but is not anywhere near as liberal as he is.

His healthcare plan sucks and will only create more problems.

While we entered Iraq under false pretenses, if we pull out now, we'll simply go in later to stop the genocide which will probably occur.

Jobs Access and Reverse Commute??? what is that? How about they pay for my 1.5 tanks of gas a week that I go through in my commute b/c public transportation doesn't exist where I need to go.

Creating new educational programs and throwing money at the crappy public educational system is NOT the answer....Parental involvement will solve the problem. And yes, even in low SES, with parental involvement, the child can succeed. The easiest way out of the projects is to actually learn in school.

Do I want change....yup, are Obama's concepts in line with where I want to go....not really. Who will I vote for? At this point, I'm serisouly thinking of writing in my father's name.
